Frequently Asked Questions

What Health Pioneer is building, what stage the devices are at, and how to work with us.

About Health Pioneer

What is Health Pioneer?

Health Pioneer is a medical-device research and innovation company building assistive and health-monitoring technology for aging safely. We design and prototype devices that help older adults — especially those at high risk of falls or unable to self-monitor — stay safer and more independent. Meet the projects on our innovations page.

Who founded Health Pioneer?

Health Pioneer was founded by inventor Annika Chadha, who designed, built, and tested all three of the company's devices. Co-founder Vidya Ravichandran leads company-building, with technology entrepreneur Vik Chadha as a strategic advisor. Our family's experience watching a loved one decline with dementia is part of why we focus on this population.

Where is Health Pioneer based?

Health Pioneer is based in Louisville, Kentucky.

The Innovations

What devices is Health Pioneer building?

Three: the OmniWheel Walker (an omnidirectional smart walker with obstacle detection and automatic braking), VitaSeat (a smart seat that passively monitors vital-sign trends), and adaptive-traction MRE materials (a passive, battery-free anti-slip material).

Can I buy these devices?

Not yet. All three are early-stage research prototypes, not products available for purchase. We are focused on validation, partnerships, and research funding before any product reaches the market.

Are the devices FDA-cleared or clinically proven?

No. The devices have not been cleared or approved by the FDA, and performance results to date come from in-house testing pending independent validation. We are careful not to make clinical efficacy claims. Nothing on this site is medical advice.

Research & Partnerships

What stage is the research at?

Each project has a working or functional prototype. The next step for every device is independent validation — for example, gait-lab testing for the OmniWheel, sensor-accuracy benchmarking for VitaSeat, and tribometer cross-validation for the MRE material.

How is the work funded?

Health Pioneer is preparing federal SBIR/STTR research proposals and pursuing grants to fund independent validation and clinical study, alongside university and clinical partnerships.

How can I partner with, advise, or cover Health Pioneer?

We'd love to hear from university researchers, clinicians, grant programs, and press. Reach out through our contact page.

For Caregivers & Families

Do you have resources I can use right now?

Yes. While the devices are in development, our free caregiver and safety library covers home safety, fall prevention, medication management, and caregiver support you can act on today.

Is anything on this site medical advice?

No. Health Pioneer's content is educational and is not a substitute for professional medical evaluation, diagnosis, or treatment. Always consult a qualified healthcare provider. See our medical disclaimer.
